DEPRESSION 2018-04-19T13:40:03+00:00

Depression is something that can affect all of us at any time, and for some this can turn into a chronic depression that needs treatment. This treatment might include lots of different modalities, but one that more and more people are turning to is acupuncture. Depression is always very multi-faceted, and can be accompanied with anxiety; which can manifest itself both physically and mentally. Acupuncture aims to bring that balance back that can quite often be missing when depression is something you are tackling.

There are many studies that have been completed that have shown the efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of depression, one of the most recent, and one that has been carried out by a Professor that taught Laura, is the Acudep trial. This was carried out by the University of York. This trial showed that acupuncture did show significantly reduced depression, when compared to usual care.

Acupuncture can offer that ‘time out’ that is needed to help in the process of dealing with, and recovering from depression. Whilst allowing your body to take that time out, acupuncture can affect the neurotransmitters within our brains that help influence the body’s homeostatic mechanisms, thus promoting a feeling of physical and emotional well being.
